Falling Knife
by Lyndsay Martinchuk

My roommate once asked me if I thought anyone had ever died by having a knife fall and stab them in the side while they were bending over during an earthquake. I said no. There were too many parameters for someone to die like that, the right position of the body, the knife, a strong enough earthquake with enough force to thrust through some important internal organ. She said I bet it has, with all the people in the world and all the earthquakes, it must have happened. I said yeah, thinking of those large numbers. But in my head I still said no.
